Bill Adair – Executive Director SCI Canada
I am pleased to report that the Senate referred Bill C-81 to a committee yesterday for review. This is an important step on the journey to approve the Accessible Canada Act before the election. More information, including a copy of the FALA media release, is available in the FALA Update below. If you would like to receive FALA updates to stay informed on progress, you are welcome to sign up as a member at www.include-me.ca/join-us . So can your staff and members, feel free to ask them, FALA welcomes individual members.
Our campaign to have the Accessible Canada Act become law before the fall election now includes asking people to write letters to Canada’s PM, Minister Qualtrough, all Senators and their local MP expressing support for passing the Act. FALA provides an on line, one step process to make it quick and easy for anyone to send letters. Since we opened this opportunity yesterday afternoon, 33,176 letters have been sent by 319 people. This is encouraging, but we know that more letters = greater impact.
You can help by sending letters yourself and by inviting your Board, staff and members to do so as well. Please submit your letter here.
SCI Canada has requested an opportunity to present in person to the Senate committee. SCI Canada is sending a letter to Minister Qualtrough presenting our support for approving the Act before the election. I encourage you to write her as well on your letterhead. Every letter helps! In the update below you can view a Q & A about the Act and key messages about the Act to help with speaking and writing about our position.
