SCI-AB + RMA Camp from April 7-10 in Kananaskis at WWL

Our SCI-AB Camp trip to Kananaskis is coming up soon! It will take place on April 7-10 You can bring family, friend or caregiver; or come solo!

 If you are interested in attending, please fill out this form (there are a few spots remaining!): (https://forms.office.com/r/TTgBMDzqPq ) for background details, so I can get a sense of rooming arrangements and possible carpool options if need be. Please note any food allergies or sensitivities. Food will be provided family style (tentative menu is outlined below), but feel free to bring your own food and snacks as you see fit.

SCI-AB Camping trip to Kananaskis to WWL and activities with RMA

Dates: Sunday, April 7 – Wednesday, April 10

Duration: 2 Travel Days, 2 Days of Activities

If self-driving:
If driving yourself plan to be at WWL for 5pm or so, plan your departure time accordingly. When you arrive park in parking lot #3 0r #4 (see map here)
You will also need a K-country pass which can be purchased online for $15/day or $90/year. It can be purchased online here. ( https://conservationpass.alberta.ca/kcp )

What to Wear: Winter-appropriate clothing and a water bottle! Bring lots of layers to be able to dress for changing temps. Bring winter boots, snow pants, winter jacket, water proof gloves, winter hat, sunglasses, and general clothing ( sweater, long sleeve, tshirts, warm pants, socks, underwear, ect.)

What to Bring: 
-Bed sheets, blanket, pillows, and towels
-Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, personal hygiene products, deodorant, soap, shampoo, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, hair dryer ect.)
-Any personalized recreation equipment required to engage with RMA activities (e.g. alpine equipment (snow pants, snow jacket, waterproof gloves), special seating cushions, etc.)
-Any medical equipment you require (ex: catheters, medications, pads, wipes, lift slings, sliding board, gloves, foam pad for shower bench ect.)

Laundry facilities are available at WWL (please bring laundry soap and loonies)

And most importantly, your sense of adventure!

What’s Provided if you signed up for activities with RMA: 

All adaptive and non-adaptive equipment* for Nordic Skiing, Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, and Bowhead Biking. Additional activity inclusions are dependent on activity selections.

Meals will be provided by SCI-AB, tentative meal plan is outlined below.. feel free to bring your own snacks or food if you would like! There will be vegetarian, gluten-free and nut free options for those who requested it.

Monday, April 8
breakfast coffee/tea/juice, yogurt + berries, eggs, toast, hashbrowns, bacon, oatmeal, fruit
lunch chips, juice box, granola bar, fruit gummies, fruit, pickles, make your own sandwich/wrap (pack in brown lunch bag)
dinner create your own tacos/burritos w/ rice, salad, salsas, guacamole, chips
Tuesday, April 9
breakfast coffee/tea/juice, yogurt + berries, breakfast burritos, oatmeal, fruit
lunch chips, juice box, granola bar, fruit gummies, fruit, pickles, make your own sandwich/wrap (pack in brown lunch bag)
dinner pasta (tomato, rose, or alfredo sauce) with  vegetables and garlic bread, roast chicken and soup
Wednesday, April 10 check out time is before 11am so be ready to leave by then, have to clean up and back a lunch + eat breakfast before then
breakfast coffee/tea/juice, yogurt + berries, breakfast casserole, oatmeal, fruit
lunch chips, juice box, granola bar, fruit gummies, fruit, pickles, make your own sandwich/wrap or pasta salad to go

 

Each cabin has:
A fully equipped kitchen (pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, cups, utensils, dish towels and dish soap). A fridge & freezer, oven, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and kettle. And bonus the 3 bedroom cabins include dishwashers and detergent!

Staying at WWL | Cabins: 

Each cabin has a bath and a roll in shower available. Each cabin also has one hospital style bed available. You will need to bring your own bedding (sheets, blanket, pillow), toiletries, towel, clothing for the weather, snacks and a lift sling or any other medical equipment you require.

One of the cabins is pet friendly, while the other is not. It is a beautiful completely accessible camp group with paved pathways throughout. The only downside is that there is no cell service or wifi available, but it is a great opportunity to disconnect and revitalize in nature. If the weather cooperates we are hoping to have a campfire night the first evening as well!

 As the camp will take place in April in the mountains, the weather can be very unpredictable, be sure to plan to bring lots of layers, warm boots, snow gear (jacket + snow pants) and waterproof gloves.

If you have signed up for adaptive activities with RMA:
(Please note: there is currently a waitlist for activity spaces, but may be able to accommodate if more staff are available)
There will be full activity days on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9. There are options for an all in option with a full or half day alpine skiing, cross country skiing, bowhead adaptive biking, and rest and relaxation in the mountains! There are also limited spaces available for accessible transportation to and from Edmonton for an additional cost. 

Other Activities Available:
-board games, puzzles and books in the main lodge to borrow, 20 km of accessible trails to explore, shuffleboard in the main lodge, large outdoor deck with views of Lower Kananaskis Lake on the back of the main lodge.
